Is a radon mitigation system under warranty, and for how long?

The fan is the part with a real manufacturer's warranty

Radon fans are made by a handful of manufacturers and shipped with their own stated cover, typically running several years from the date of installation. That warranty follows the unit, not the installer, which is a genuine advantage: it survives the contractor going out of business or the house changing hands.

What it covers is the fan failing on its own. It does not cover the labour to swap it, and it does not cover damage from something else, such as a unit mounted where water can collect in the housing. Keep the model number and the install date somewhere findable, because a claim needs both.

Workmanship is the one that varies

Everything other than the fan sits under the installer's own workmanship cover: the sealing, the pipe joints, the mounting, the electrical connection, the roof or wall penetration. Lengths differ widely between companies, and this is the term worth reading carefully rather than assuming, because it is the one a contractor sets themselves.

Ask two things specifically. Whether it transfers to a subsequent owner, which matters if the house may sell inside the term. And whether a callback to add sealing or adjust the system counts as warranty work or as a new job, because that distinction is where most disputes actually happen.

The commitment that is easiest to get wrong

The one most homeowners assume is included is a promise about the number: that if the confirming test comes back above the target, the installer returns and keeps working at no charge. This is a normal and reasonable term. It is also not automatic, and a verbal version of it is worth nothing when the test result arrives.

Treat a lifetime guarantee offered out loud as a reason for more questions rather than fewer. The useful version names a specific level, states what happens if the house does not reach it, and appears on the quote you signed.
